2021 Marchand & Burch Villages Chardonnay

Fruit was sourced from Marchand & Burch’s Mount Barrow vineyard which sits at an elevation of 380 metres and is predominately planted to the French clones 95, 96, 277 and 76 along with smaller plantings of Gin Gin and American clones. Winemaking techniques include wild fermentation, partial malolactic conversion and lees stirring with maturation taking place in an even spilt of new, 1 year old and older French oak barriques and puncheons.
Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Nosing offers up aromas of white peach, apricot and dried honey followed by hints of lemon butter, citrusy nougat like notes and spice. Full, round and showing ample richness, ripe peach, apricot and dried honey flavours are texturally creamy in their feel. Notions of bees wax, nougat and crème brulee lie underneath, a lick of fresh acidity lending balance. Spicy finish with a long opulent aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
