Coming Soon - 2021 Lowestoft Woodlands Single Vineyard Pinot Noir
Lowestoft is one of Tasmania’s most exciting producers, home to some of the region’s oldest vines, planted in 1986 just outside Hobart. Since Kiwi-born Liam McElhinney took the reins in 2020, the estate’s reputation has soared—most notably with La Maison Pinot Noir, which took out the prestigious Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy in 2023. With mature vines, precision winemaking and growing acclaim, Lowestoft is fast becoming a producer to watch in Tasmanian wine.
Hand-picked and wild fermented with 10% whole clusters, the 2021 Woodlands Pinot saw gentle pumpovers and 15 days on skins before ageing 11 months in 500L French oak (30% new). Expect ripe raspberry and crimson cherry, with violet florals and cinnamon spice unfolding over a supple, velvety frame. A poised, elegant single-vineyard expression with fine structure and luminous depth.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews....
Pinot noir sourced from the Woodlands vineyard in the Coal River Valley. Bright cherry fruit studded with spice, pomegranate, pressed flowers, cranberry, mountain herbs and subtle undergrowth at the core. There is a pleasing depth to the dark cherry and wild strawberry fruits with fine powdery tannins, a bright mineral-laden line and a composed, savoury swish of the tail on the exit. Drink 2023-2030.
