2021 Jericho S3 Shiraz
Matured for 12 months in seasoned French oak. Black as night at its core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. The nose expels aromas of blackberry and dark plum followed by some liquorice, hints of blueberry, scorched earth and pepper. Rich blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits carry medium to full body weight with subtle elements of vanillin cedar and peppered earth lying underneath. Fine grained tannins finishing with good freshness and a bright blue to dark fruited aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
This is dangerously delicious Blewitt Springs shiraz, hewn of old-vine fruit from the recently purchased Bracken vineyard. Dense, jubey and yet, far from insouciant or soupy, with a finely wrought tannic pliancy corralling the seams while directing the boysenberry, licorice strap, dried rose- to lavender-accents long. A subtle skein of pepper traipsing across the finish. It is difficult to think of any better shiraz – at least of a sophisticated floral, fresh and beautifully structured idiom – at this price. Drink by 2028.
