2021 Heggies Vineyard Estate Botrytis Riesling (375ml)
Bright straw colour with golden tinged edges. Intense honeyed pear and baked apple scents rise out of the glass followed by some marmalade and lemon butter notes. Rich, luscious honeyed apricot, apple and lime flavours are underscored by bracing fresh acidity. Notions of marmalade and lemon butter linger on the back half. Good viscosity concluding with some dried pineapple characters on the lengthy aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
The tightrope walk and tension between fruit sweetness and acidity is delicious and fascinating in equal measure here, with characters of lime-edged apricot drops, lemon barley, dried honey, gingerbread and a dusting of soft spice and jasmine. Floral and head-spinningly pure on the palate, with nary a hint of cloying. A clean, precise bolt of pure botrytis fruit and spice on the finish lingers beautifully. Drink by 2028.
