Established in 1982 by Rick Kinzbrunner, Giaconda Vineyard has since become one of the most sought-after producers in Australia. The property is now devoted solely to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz, with a separate planting of Nebbiolo in the township of Red Hill. Red wines see extended maceration on skins to develop finer tannins, with maturation taking place in French Oak barrels for up to 24 months. The wines are only ever moved via gravity or gas, retaining all the pristine fruit that they work so hard to produce in the winery and the vineyard. Matured in Amphorae and old oak, the Nebbiolo has bright tannins that enhance its pure fruit flavors. Expect notes of roasted chestnuts, rose petals, forest floor, dark orange chocolate, and tar.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews....
How long to age this beauty? How long is a piece of string? Each return to the glass sees something new to admire, something else to cling to and wonder at. First, it was the aromas – so aromatic with a strong cherry, floral and herbal bent – and then a palate that ceased to simply go in a straight line, but kept diverting down interesting side alleys of dark flavours, spice, herbs, cocoa, earth and balsamic. And those tannins, a mesh of the savoury and the silky. This could take a while to fully reveal so give it the time it deserves. Drink 2024 - 2042.
