Established in 1979 by Geoff and Susan Bull, Freycinet was the first commercial winery on the East Coast of Tasmania. Today daughter Lindy and partner Claudio Radenti who both have extensive winemaking experience from their travels around the world carry on the tradition.
Produced from Freycinet’s original 1979 plantings, the 2021 vintage bought lower than average yields delivering fruit of superb concentration and balance resulting in some of the finest Chardonnay produced to date. Fermented and maturated in French oak barriques with regular lees stirring to enhance texture.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a distinct glimmer of green around the edges and a watery hue. Pronounced white peach, dried honey and pear aromas are intermeshed with cashew, citrusy nougat and crème brulee notes. Rich fleshy peach and ripe nectarine fruits carry ample weight, texture and volume across the palate with dried honey, crème brulee, a twist of lemon meringue, fig and delicate spicy cashew elements lingering underneath. Full and well rounded in the mouth, it boasts fantastic concentration and power, finishing with abundant freshness and a long moreish aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Other Reviews....
French oak barrel fermentation and the maturation of a chardonnay that has a gently creamy texture is uncommon for Tasmania. This has a wide swath of fruit flavours from melon to pink grapefruit that all add up to a compelling palate, generous yet perfectly balanced. Drink to 2036.
