There's no doubt that if Domaine Robert Chevillon were based in Vosne-Romanee or Chambolle-Musigny, their wines would be next to impossible to find and sell for exorbitant prices. That they are found in Nuits-Saint-Georges, a village with no grand cru sites, has allowed these wines to fly under the radar for many consumers. That said, these are some of the most accomplished wines of Burgundy, and best of all continually produce wines that seemingly ignore any challenges a vintage might throw their way to achieve results seen only at very few of the finest addresses across the Cote.

Now under the stewardship of Robert Chevillon's sons Bertrand and Denis, these passionate pair of vignerons are tireless in their pursuit of the finest expression of Pinot Noir possible. After meticulous care in the vineyards across the year, grapes are hand harvested, sorted and de-stemmed before receiving a cold maceration in vats for 5-6 days and natural fermentation lasting 2-3 weeks. Maturation lasts from 15 to 18 months in a mix of 30% new and 70% second use barrels.

Les Saint-Georges is the most lauded Premier Cru site in the commune, lending its name to the town of Nuits in the 1890's to become the full Nuits-Saint-Georges we know today. As the de facto Grand Cru vineyard, Les Saint-Georges is on the gentle mid-slope with varied and complex limestone soils. Wines from Les Saint-Georges are rich, full, complex, and have an enviable track record for longevity in the cellar.

Other Reviews....
This too possesses a classic ruby hue. Here too the ultra-fresh and highly attractive nose of essence of red berries, earth and discreet spice wisps is ultra- fresh. The utterly delicious and beautifully delineated larger-scaled flavors possess a taut muscularity along with evident minerality on the moderately austere, compact and even more tightly wound finale. The Chevillon LSG is justly known for its longevity and the 2021 version should continue that tradition. Beautiful. Drink through 2036+.

The 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges has turned out especially well this year, exhibiting aromas of rich berry fruit, plums, loamy soil, warm spices and dark chocolate, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's layered and seamless, concluding with a long, expansive finish.

Rich mid purple. There is a wealth of fruit evident on the nose, a dimension over and above Les Cailles. The richness of the fruit fills the mouth all the way to the back, a light coating of oak, a very good acid balance and a graceful finish. Drink from 2029-2035.
