2021 Domaine Clarendon Syrah
Rich, opulent fruit framed by a robust tannin structure and tense acidity.
Dense pitch black heart with a deep dark purple black hue. Powerful ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and dark chocolate scents waft from the glass followed by some vanillin cedar and subtle peppered earth notes. Rich, opulent blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate fruits are framed by a robust tannin structure and tense acidity. Some dark plum, earthy blueberry and spicy vanillin cedar the support act. Finishes fresh, slightly muscular and long.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14%
Other Reviews….
A whiff of reduction defines the nose before forest, spruce and red and blue fruit accents tumble across licorice tannins. It’s compressed and taut at the end. Perhaps less accessible than the sumptuous '22s, but a very fine opening act all the same. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

From the highest vineyard in McLaren Vale at 350m; 70/30% seasoned/new French oak. Pulpy and open, a wash of boysenberry, lilac and violet, iodine and brambly wild fruits, blackberry pastille, soft licorice, black tea and potpourri. This is meaty and intense, loaded with character and the typically drying, long-drawing tannins of this address, but there’s plenty of fruitful levity and an appealing peppery savouriness through the finish. Drink by 2030.
