2021 Diletto Westgate Syrah
A savoury mid weighted Syrah with a juicy yet elegant feel and a smoky blackpepper infused finish.
Midnight black heart with a dark red hue. Fragrant plum, red liquorice and clove scents intermix with smoked meats, spicy cedar and peppered earth notes. The savoury mid weighted palate sees red plum and red liquorice fruits melding into a smoked meat, clove and peppered earth back drop. Juicy yet elegant feel. Bright acidity and fine grained tannins with a smoky blackpepper infused finish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews……
Sourced from the 1969-planted Westgate vineyard in the Grampians, aged nine months in French barriques (15% new). An auspicious debut for this new label started by Melanie Chester (winemaker at Giant Steps) and Ben Mullen (from Mulline) and their respective partners. A brilliant crimson purple. Geez, this smells good. Aromas of dark fruits, lavender, graphite, a little olive tapenade and garrigues. Textured with velvety, persistent tannins and bright acidity. A delicious wine, that while hard to keep your hands off even now, will reward at least a decade in the cellar. Drink by 2032.
