2021 Chateau Tanunda 50 Year Old Vines Shiraz
Rich, dense and opulent with an extravagantly long finish.
Aged for 20 months in French oak. Dense inky black in colour with a deep dark red black hue. Wafting through the nostrils are heady scents of ripe blackberry, liquorice and black cherry complimented by smoky vanillin oak, hints of mocha, fennel and blackpepper. Rich, dense and opulent, the full blown palate is completely swamped with lush black cherry, liquorice and blackberry fruits. Smoky vanillin cedar, earthy fennel and blackpepper elements extend across the back half. Super intense and thick, it boasts magnificent power and features ripe, slightly chewy tannins. Extravagantly long finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.9%
Other Reviews…..
A similar method of winemaking as to the 2020, culminating in two years maturing in a mix of new and older French oak. The fruit is, again, from Marananga, Light’s Pass and Bethany. The colour here is an opaque black/maroon. The nose has aromas of aniseed, florals, blackcurrants, chocolate and earth all swirling around. Leather, cloves and soy as well. This is rich, powerful and concentrated with good length through to sleek tannins. The palate sees notes of coffee beans and mocha emerging too. A seriously good Barossa red, with ten to twenty years ahead of it. Drink 2034-2044.
