This is the second vintage of Chalmers exotic and racy Falanghina, the first commercial release of this varietal in Australia. In Italy Falanghina refers to two distinct grape varieties, both primarily grown in Campania region. Falanghina Flegrea is a highly aromatic and fruity grape grown closer to the coast, and Falanghina Beneventana, a more savoury and mineral version grown further into the mountains behind Naples. This wine is made from the Chalmers imported clone of Falanghina Beneventana and spent 6 months on lees.
Bright pale straw colour with a glimmer of green to the edges and a watery hue. Aromas of ripe pear, green apple and lime are followed by some fresh herb and stony mineral notes. Delicious pear, lime and green apple fruits flood the mouth with terrific intensity. Subtle infusions of fresh herbs and a distinct flinty mineral character linger on the back half. Finishes dry with a burst of zingy acidity and a long racy aftertaste.
