A biodynamic blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot matured for 16 months in barrel. Midnight black dark red heart with a red to dark red hue. Spicy red to black currant, red cherry and rose petal aromas evolve out of the glass followed by some earth, dried herb and tobacco notes. Savoury red to black currant fruits are intermeshed with dusty earth, tobacco, dried herb, leather and spicy cedar elements. Lively acidity and chalky tannins lend energy, tension and grip to the elegant finish.

The nose is headlined by tart and sweet blackberries, but also has the density of dark chocolate and espresso bean and the freshness of fennel. A cool palate balances blackberries and earth against salt and pepper, while tense, poised tannins create a sophisticated feel. Happily, this Riserva has clearly been given careful attention even as Gran Selezione tends to steal the focus now.

A mix of black cherry, blackberry and floral flavors is underscored by a firm structure in this fleshy red. Intense and balanced, with a lingering, mineral aftertaste. This feels crisp in the end, offering a light tactile feel around the gums. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best from 2027 through 2045.
