2021 Barr-Eden Estate Mengler’s Hill Dreams of Gold Shiraz
Aged in 3 and 4 year old French oak puncheons and hogsheads. Dense inky black in colour with a very deep bright dark purple hue. Elevated scents of dark plum and liquorice stream out of the glass followed by vanillin cedar, earthy fennel and spicy pepper notes. Rich, lush blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits engulf the mouth with youthful acidity lending freshness. Excellent concentration with spicy vanillin cedar, earthy fennel and blackpepper characters lingering on the finish. Velvet tannins have a sturdy underbelly. Concludes long, spicy and succulent.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews…..
From Mengler’s Hill. Blackcurrant, fresh blackberry, sage and mint, discreet spicy oak. It’s just over medium-bodied, a bright and juicy mix of berries, supple tannin with something of a graphite feel, balanced acidity, cool acidity, and a firm finish of excellent length. Lovely wine. Flavour and finesse. Drink 2022-2030.
