2021 Angove Warboys Vineyard Shiraz
A rich, bold and super concentrated McLaren Vale Shiraz.
Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum scents waft out of the glass with great intensity complimented by some toasty vanillin cedar, black cherry, fennel and subtle peppered earth notes. Rich, bold and super concentrated, the weighty palate is engulfed with opulently textured blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and black cherry fruits. Polished yet underlyingly sturdy tannins with delicately smoked vanillin cedar, scorched earth and peppered fennel elements persisting across the back half. Magnificent power and depth finishing long and sumptuous.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
Fermented with 25% whole bunches, topped with crushed fruit; aged in French puncheons (25% new) for 16 months. Ripe boysenberry, crème de mûre, black cherry juice, tapenade, licorice and salted-cherry-chocolate notes. And if that sounds decadent, it’s not. Layered, supple, rippling with flavour, yes, but dutifully proportioned, tugged in as needed, then equally free-flowing when apt. It’s an impressive wine, one of slick glide and ease, but with serious fruit and site character the underwriter. This will age exceptionally. Drink by 2036.
