2021 Alkina Birdsong Shiraz

A blend of 89% Shiraz and 11% Mataro with roughly 60% of the Shiraz whole bunch and the Mataro destemmed. Fermented wild and matured in concrete for 8 months before blending and a final 2 months ageing in old oak foudre and hogsheads.
Dense inky black dark purple colour with a very deep bright dark purple hue. Elevated ripe dark plum and liquorice scents are complimented by hints of blackberry, spicy vanilla, blueberry and earth. Rich dark plum, liquorice and ripe blueberry fruits are underpinned by bright energized acidity and a firm tannin structure. Grippy mouth feel with some light vanilla and spicy earth characters lingering in the background. Robust, tightly wound finish yet still ample in its length.
