2020 West Cape Howe Old School Chardonnay
The Old School Chardonnay is sourced from specific vineyard blocks in Mount Barker with barrel fermentation and maturation taking place in French oak of which 50% is new. It spends 7 months on lees and goes through full malolactic fermentation to produce a textured, full flavoured Chardonnay.
Brilliant pale straw colour with gleaming green tinged edges and a watery hue. Nosing offers up aromatics of ripe peaches, light honeycomb, nougat, hints of bacon fat and spice. Round, full and creamy on entry the palate is decked out with rich fleshy peach, ripe nectarine and honeycomb flavours with some butterscotch finger, bacon fat and spicy nougat in the background. Finishes with a lick of freshness which brings balance and a long flavoursome aftertaste. An excellent fuller styled Chardonnay which will continue to fill out with some bottle age.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
