2020 Wantirna Estate Amelia Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
Notes from producer....
The quality of the cabernet family grapes was probably the highlight of the year that was 2020! Unfortunately, the quantity was really quite horrible and just two barrels were made. The composition was approximately 68% cabernet sauvignon, 17% cabernet franc / merlot and 15% petit Verdot. So small was the petit verdot crop that we had to knock the end out of a barrel to ferment the grapes in!
The 2020 Amelia is a refined wine, balanced in weight and with really lovely tannins. A terrific example of Yarra Valley cabernet. 2 barrels only made.

Other Reviews....
The 2020 Amelia Cabernet Sauvignon is a soft, natural, effortless wine. The tannins are seamless, always; and for that reason, it can be easily overlooked and underestimated. But do so at your peril. The cool, low-yielding 2020 season has birthed a wine of ductile, lithe tannins and extended length. There is salted pomegranate, rose petals (actually, the scent reminds me of the Boscobel rose bush in my garden in Perth, which smells of raspberry leaf tea), fresh oregano, pork crackling, thyme, fresh tobacco, maple glaze and redcurrants. It's a marvel, due in no small part to the tannins, which create a cushion, a flexible framework within which the fruit can bob. "Effortless" and "natural" are the words that come to mind when I think of this Cabernet, and I love it for that. The fruit has its own agenda, unfettered by hands in the winery. This is lovely, pure and so great. Drink 2022 - 2042

A blend of 68/17/15% cabernet/cabernet franc/petit verdot. Only two barrels were made of this classic, cool-climate Yarra cabernet. Gently perfumed with aromas of new season cherries, lilac and a little cigar box already starting to emerge. The medium-bodied, bordeaux-like palate is supported by lively acidity and fine, gravelly tannins. Give this time to open up if you're drinking it now, and for those putting some down, this should age effortlessly over the next five to 15 years. Drink 2022 - 2032.
