Matured in 1-5 year old French oak barrels for 18 months. Midnight black at its heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Nosing offers up blackcurrant and liquorice scents with some spicy vanillin cedar, earth and light tobacco notes also chiming in. On the fuller bodied side the palate is richly fruited with blackcurrant, black cherry and liquorice. A firm, muscular tannin structure lends grip to the finish. Spicy cedar, tobacco and spicy earth characters sit in the background. Concludes well fruited yet quite stern and slightly bitter.
