2020 Ox Hardy Grenache
Ox Hardy is the new venture of former long time Petaluma winemaker Andrew ‘Ox’ Hardy. The fruit for the 2020 Grenache was selected form three separate blocks in Blewitt Springs and McLaren Flat - the Natale, DogRidge and Conté vineyards. These old bush vine blocks are dry grown and yield high quality fruit that displays structure and complexity. 10% of the fruit was whole bunch fermented with maturation taking place in seasoned French oak for 6 months.
Bright dark red core with subtle tinges of black around the edges and a light red hue. Blossoming out of the glass is a fragrant mix of ripe red raspberries, cherries and red liquorice with hints of fresh herbs, light earth and spice also evident. The intensely flavoured palate is bursting with red to dark raspberry, red cherry and red liquorice fruits. Lying underneath are subtle nuances of vanillin cedar, dried herbs and spice. Beautiful freshness and silky tannins combine with a terrific power wave that leads into a long succulent aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
