The 2020 vintage started off with a nice warm spring but was followed by a sudden hail event on the 23rd of October. The hail resulted in moderate losses, with the overall yield down 28%. What remained of the crop experienced an excellent summer with consistent warm temperatures and good conditions. The fruit was hand-picked and sorted, and was whole bunch pressed to tank for settling. Once the juice started fermenting it was moved to French oak barrels, of which 50% were new. The wine was matured in barrel for a full 17 months, where it completed a full malolactic fermentation.

Other Reviews....
We seem to have missed the 2018 and 2019 releases of MW Chardonnay.
Rich style, grilled peach, honey and butter, cashews and cedar oak, a suggestion of aniseed? It’s glossy and viscous, but has a firm bite of lime acidity and flavour, toast and butter, a fine chalk dust texture, and a powerful savoury oatmeal finish. It’s certainly opulent in style, but keeps itself fresh, and for those seeking a more weighty Chardonnay, it will do the trick very nicely. Drink 2022 - 2029+
