2020 Mermerus Pinot Noir
Established in 1996 by Paul and Jennifer Champion the Mermerus Pinot Noir is produced from a single vineyard in the Geelong sub region of Bellarine Peninsula. The fruit was hand picked from low yielding vines (1.8 tonnes per acre), open fermented, basket pressed and matured in French oak barriques for 12 months.
Semi translucent red to dark red colour with a light red hue. Rising out of the glass with good intensity are complex aromatics of spicy cherry, forest floor and rhubarb followed by lightly toasted cedar, some meaty notes and dried herbs. Deliciously savoury and possessing a supple feel the palate sees an intriguing mix of red cherry, rhubarb and strawberry flavours overlay a back drop spicy cedar, forest floor, a touch of meatiness and dried herbs. Silky smooth tannins with powerful, savoury fruits unfolding onto a long, complex conclusion.
Drink over next 5-6 years.
