2020 Maxwell Ellen Street Shiraz

What was originally known for over 100 years as Ellen Street runs along the southern boundary of the Maxwell vineyards. Situated between this road and the winery is a small vineyard of craggy, gnarled Shiraz vines planted in 1953. Every year these vines bear some of the most concentrated fruit on the Maxwell estate. The wine was matured in a combination of American and French oak hogsheads (15% new) for 18 months.
Impenetrable inky black heart with a very deep black dark red hue. Wafting out of the glass with tremendous intensity are heady scents of ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and dark chocolate followed by toasty vanillin oak and spicy mocha notes. Rich, voluptuous and highly seductive the hefty palate is saturated with plush blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits. Vanillin oak, dark chocolate and spice elements lurk underneath. Dense and powerful it finishes with silky smooth tannins and a long, lavishly fruited finish.
