2020 Marchand & Burch Mount Barrow Pinot Noir
Deep dark red black shaded core with a dark red hue. Soaring out of the glass are intense dark to black cherry, ripe strawberry and anise aromas. Also chiming in is a whiff of violets, forest floor and spicy cedar. Light to mid weight the palate is flush with rich dark to black cherry, ripe strawberry and anise flavours. Generous, juicy like feel with notions of forest floor, dried herbs and spicy toasted cedar sliding through the back half. Velvety tannins. Excellent power with a long ripe finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14%
Other Reviews…..
The Mount Barrow vineyard has impressive elevation in an area where there isn't much, and it brings poise and detail to the top notes of this wine. It is complex and dense and layered and muscular – all hallmarks of great wines from Mount Barker – and it shows the capacity for longevity that we look for when making assessments about quality. This is structured, powerful, spicy and littered with savoury spice through the long finish. An excellent pinot in an Australian context – as contentious as that is, for a pinot from the west. Drink by 2031.
