2020 Luis Seabra Vinhos Xisto Ilimitado

Bright straw colour with a watery hue. Aromas of pear, light dried honey and citrus are trailed by quince and faint wet slate notes. Light and vibrant there’s a nice contrast of texture and tension with pear and lime fruits overlaying minerally oyster shell and salty slate like characters. Finishes dry with refreshing acidity and an attractively brisk aftertaste.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.

There’s a lot of pleasure and interest in these Portugal, avant garde wines. Luis Seabra has an unnerving ability to find tension, texture, minerality and edge in his wines, while delivering drinkability and complexity too. Local varieties, older vines, x-factor.
Steely and chalky white of energy and pucker, lime-lemon orientated with just-ripe brown skin pear characters, oyster shell mineral notes, wet slate and flinty elements too – bouquet and palate matching here. Races along the palate but also has a light juiciness, feels detailed, precise and lively with a strong vein of minerality, generally. Delicious, wildly so. Drink 2022-2025.
