2020 Inkwell Infidels Primitivo
Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Spicy dark to black plum and aniseed aromas fill the nostrils followed by some toasty vanillin oak, earth and pepper notes. Rich and lush the palate is awash with dark plum, black cherry and liquorice fruits which meld into a back drop of vanillin oak, earth and spicy pepper characters. Dry, slightly chewy tannins with an opulent feel to the spicy black fruited conclusion.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
This address crafts what is likely the finest example of this southern Italian variety in Australia. The confluence of sweet bourbon American oak, French oak’s cedar, tamarind, pickled radish, bergamot and spiced cherry, with a sluice of dusty tannins corralling the fray, is delicious. A warm year packing some heat, but nothing obtuse. Long of finish and forceful of personality. Dink by 2027.
