Home Hill is one of your classic Australian vineyard retreats that functions as both a serious winery and a charming getaway with restaurant included. The focus here is primarily on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sylvaner and Sparkling wine, but their track record really shines with Pinot. Over recent years they have clearly established themselves as one of Tasmania’s best and most consistent producers of the varietal, culminating in their 2014 Home Hill Reserve Pinot Noir taking out the Jimmy Watson Trophy.
Deep dark red core with black tinged edges and a bright red purple hue. Fragrantly scented, alluring aromatics of violets, dark cherries, anise and strawberries meld into forest floor, fresh herb and spicy cedar notes. Long, elegant and very savoury the cooler 2000 vintage has produced a wine that’s not quite as ripe and juicy as past vintages. Red to dark cherry and winter strawberry fruits drive the palate morphing into fresh herb, stalky cedar, forest floor and spice nuances on the back half. A refined supple mouthfeel and polished tannin structure counterpointed by a beautifully balanced freshness. Excellent power wave with a long cool toned finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
