Currently there is a significant generational shift happening in Burgundy, and these new names are seemingly better trained and better equipped to succeed than ever before. One of the most exciting of these new talents is Thibaud Clerget now heading up his family's Domaine Clerget. Based in Volnay, Thibaud represents the 28th generation of his family's winemaking history in Burgundy, and in a few brief vintages has created significant buzz. In true Burgundy tradition, Thibaud is equally as happy on the tractor in the vineyard as he is in the cellar, confident in taking on all aspects of the process. Since 2019 vintage the family holdings in Volnay and Meursault have been bolstered with further contract arrangements adding prime parcels such as Meursault Perrieres and Corton Grand Cru.

Other Reviews....
Thet 2020 Corton Le Rognets Grand Cru comes from contracted fruit, though Thibaut Clerget manages the vineyard himself. It includes 40% whole bunch with 50% new oak. It has a well-defined, quite taut bouquet with blackberry, briary and light loamy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, vivid red berry fruit laced with orange zest, leading to a lively and focused finish. Excellent. Drink 2025-2045.

Thibaut runs the viticulture in this vineyard then buys the grapes. 50% whole bunch 50% new wood. Mid crimson, showing a very toasty and lactic style of new wood. Very juicy behind, the whole bunch is almost hidden but I suspect stretches out the finish nicely, and the fruit is not too ripe. Finishes very well, as long as the oak calms down. Actually very long.
