A man of the vineyards, Arnaud Mortet is driven to produce perfect Pinot fruit from meticulously tended vineyards. He is without question one of the finest growers of the entire Côte and as great wines are the products of great fruit, it is no coincidence that he is producing some of the finest wines in Burgundy today. There is no doubt that the wines are more refined than those produced while his father was alive, yet they share the same intensity and potential longevity. Arnaud is continuing Denis' dream of producing more refined wines, openly getting closer stylistically to the wines of his uncle, Charles Rousseau, without sacrificing depth and intensity or consistency across the range.

Other Reviews....
Admirably discreet wood influence can be found on the markedly cooler and more restrained yet wonderfully diverse aromas of various dark berries, plum, violet, leather and whispers of the sauvage. There is excellent volume to the dense, powerful and mineral-driven big-bodied flavors that flash a taut muscularity on the youthfully austere, lengthy and expressly built-to-age finale. This is a ripe but classically style LSJ that should amply reward extended keeping. Drink through 2035+.

Aromas of red berries, plums, rose petals, sweet spices and forest floor introduce the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless wine that's layered and concentrated, with a vibrant core of fruit and a long, penetrating finish.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru contains 30% whole bunch with 50% new oak. It has a vibrant, tightly wound bouquet with wet limestone/petrichor scents complementing the shimmering black cherry and orange zest scents. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, fine acidity, veering more towards the red fruit profile with a pinch of brown spices on the finish. Long in the mouth, very classy. Drink 2026-2050.

Medium deep purple, one third whole bunch, but that is enough to open up the nose and make it appealing. Very stylish, good oak take up, ripe plums with a strawberry touch. Fine long finish.
