2020 COS Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico
Azienda Agricola COS was founded in 1980 in the town of Vittoria, located in the southeast of Sicily. Championing indigenous grape varietals since their inception, today they are one of the finest producers on the island. Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico is a blend of 40% Frappato and 60% Nero d'Avola produced from 25-year-old vines thriving in red, limestone-rich soil. The wines undergo wild fermentation on skins and are matured in Slavonian barrels for at least 18 months. This blend combines the lighter, fruitier character of Frappato with the robust power and structure of Nero d'Avola.
The 2020 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico is youthfully coy with nuanced violet and rose tones complementing crushed blackberries. This sweeps easily across the palate, soft and perfumed with pretty red fruits and inner florals that swirl throughout. It leaves a citrus and herbal tea tension in its wake, finishing lightly structured and with medium length. Drink 2024 - 2027.
Eric Guido - Antonio Galloni's Vinous
An organic blend of 60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Frappato, the 2020 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico has a wild side with punchy aromas of cherry, cola, crushed stone and mountain herb. These elements come together seamlessly, giving this wine a good sense of vertical lift and energy. This is a benchmark expression of this Sicilian appellation. Drink 2023 - 2028.
