Castello dei Rampolla is located in Panzano’s famous Conca d’Oro or ‘golden basin” district, an amphitheater of striking, pristine hillside vineyards in Tuscany. The di Napoli family has owned Rampolla since 1739, and Alceo di Napoli inherited the estate in 1965. At the time, Rampolla was essentially a summer residence. Wheat, olive trees and other mixed crops were cultivated, but there were no vineyards. With the assistance of Piero Antinori amongst others, Alceo began making and bottling wines under the Rampollo label in 1975. Rampolla are now a reference point for the highest level of quality that does not fit into Chianti Classico or Brunello for Tuscany.

Other Reviews....
The 2020 Chianti Classico is Sangiovese with small parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This is a lovely wine with a level of punchiness, brightness and inner energy that is never easy to achieve, especially in a warm vintage such as this. That's the Panzano magic, enhanced in this case by the estate's non-interventionist winemaking philosophy. You'll love to drink this entry-level wine no matter what your personal preference in Sangiovese style. Production is 31,373 bottles. Drink 2023 - 2028.

The 2020 Chianti Classico is brilliant. Vibrant and deep, with striking inner perfume, the 2020 dazzles with gorgeous inner aromas and fine balance. There's good depth and texture, but perhaps not quite the excitement of the best years. April was especially challenging for Sangiovese, which lowered yields considerably. Drink 2022-2032.

Antonio Galloni - Vinous

A classic Chianti Classico with plums, strawberries and peaches on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a long, linear finish with brightness and focus. Juicy finish. Drinkable now, but even better in a year or two.
