The maiden vintage of Hereafter Here (intentionally similar sounding to year after year, denoting the passage of time) is based on two young vine blocks in Stellenbosch. The main contributor is the Baby Duck vineyard, planted on granite soils on a gentle southern slope in the Polkadraai Hills ward, while the second vineyard is planted in the Upper Blaauwklippen Valley on deep red soil.
The grapes were hand sorted and whole bunch pressed. The resulting juice was very lightly settled with no additions and wild fermented in old barrels of various sizes. After fermentation, the wine was kept on lees for around twelve months, then rested in tank on fine lees without fining for a further six months prior to bottling.

Other Reviews....
The 2020 Hereafter Here comes from vines under 10 years augmented by some lots from Alheit's other vineyards. It has a fragrant nose with yellow plum, almond and vanilla - very seductive. The palate is well balanced with a lightly spiced entry, a little honeyed in texture with ginger and orange rind towards the finish. Lovely, though perhaps a couple of paces behind Alheit's other label. Drink: 2022-2032.

Neal Martin - Vinous

This silky white offers a mix of vanilla, orange curd, poached apricot and lanolin notes, which show good integration with a refreshing streak of salinity and well-cut acidity. Long and expansive on the lively finish, echoing the fruit notes and exuding a rich hint of toffee. Drink now through 2027. 753 cases made.
