2019 Zema Estate Coonawarra Shiraz

Rich, dense and concentrated with a plush feel and some firmness across the finish.

Matured for 15 months in French and American oak. Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate aromas waft out of the glass trailed by vanillin oak and mocha notes. Rich, dense and concentrated, the full bodied palate carries a plush feel with ripe blackberry, liquorice and toasty vanillin oak flavours to the fore. Earthy mocha and subtle pepper elements sit in the background. A sturdy yet velvety tannin structure lends some firmness to the long opulent finish.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.

Decent flavour and a bit of spread to the finish; this is a good release from Zema. Redcurrant and plum flavours with mint, cream and woodsy spice. It's medium weight and feels well finessed. Drink by 2032.

This fine Coonawarra Shiraz was fermented on skins for ten days before fifteen months in a mix of French and American hogsheads. These Estate wines are absolutely nothing if not fabulous value. The colour here is a near opaque purple. The nose exhibits finely handled oak and the wine oozes purple fruits along with mulberries, chocolate, vanilla, plums and dried herbs. The wine is balanced with finesse and focus, and fine satiny tannins. Very long, this is a ten to fifteen year proposition and a cracker. And by the way, with already five years ageing in the Zema cellars, this is a no brainer. Drink 2024-2039.
