Known as the ‘son of’ Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon, the Filius combines Margaret River Cabernets classic structure and power along with a generosity of fruit that makes it an ideal earlier drinking style. The 2019 release is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot with maturation taking place in French oak barriques, 7% new with the balance 1-5 year old barrels, for a period of 11 months.

Rich and bountifully fruited, yet layered with finesse, the Filius features all the virtues of Margaret River Cabernet at an entry level price.

Midnight black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Filling the olfactory senses are intense aromatics of red to black currant and mulberry fruits which are complimented by dusty cedar, tobacco, subtle black olive and bay leaf. Rich, yet layered with finesse, the mid weighted palate features a bounty of blackcurrant and ripe mulberry flavours over a dusty cedar, tobacco, spicy black olive and dried herb back drop. Excellent power and depth with finely grained tannins and perfectly  balanced acidity forming a great framework. Concludes long, generous and refined.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews…..
It all hangs together perfectly, from its light crimson hue to its ultra-fragrant bouquet and juicy red and black currant palate. Even better is the structure revealed on the finish and aftertaste: tannins wrought with the precision of a Swiss watchmaker. Drink to 2029.

James Halliday’s Top 100 wines of 2021

Plush aromas of blackcurrants, very herbs and flowers follow through to a medium body with firm, silky tannins and a fresh, vivid finish. Extremely fine-crafted and curated here. Drink and enjoy now, but it will improve. Screw cap.
