Matured in French oak for 10 months. Brilliant pale straw colour with a distinct greenish tinge around the outskirts and a watery hue. Lifted nectarine, green apple and lemon butter scents are intermeshed with toast and gun flint. Complex and textured the palate features a concentrated flavour profile of nectarine, white peach and lime fruits over roasted almond, subtle bees wax and infusions of gun flint. Finishes dry and smooth with brisk acidity and an intense yet focused aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13%

Other Reviews....
This is always a rewarding wine. A measured take on the Hunter's proclivity for generosity finding confluence with chardonnay's affinity for oak and (partial) wild fermentation. Tropical accents of canned pineapple and dried mango. Vanilla pod oak, nougat, nutmeg and cinnamon. A long, rich sluice of fruit. Oak on the edges. Will gain greater poise in a few years, but loads of fun already. Drink by 2026.

I tasted through a vertical of Johnno’s Shiraz just now (2004-2019), but Chardonnay comes first, as I’ve been waiting on this now for a little while. New packaging too, so will update that later. I’m always quietly amazed by the quality of Vat 47, given it’s Hunter Chardonnay. There’s a little bit of pixie dust somewhere around this wine.
Smooth and glossy texture, but refined too, with fine acidity, lime and peach, a dusting of spice, vanilla and cashew. It’s lively, balanced, runs from front to back palate without raising a sweat, so calm and composed, and closes long and juicy, a wee bit of dried herb and green olive in the aftertaste. Even as a young wine, you just want to drink the hell out of it. Yes. Drink 2020 - 2030.
