An attractively perfumed and spicy nose is comprised mostly by notes of violet and dark cherry that are also trimmed in a touch of wood. The sleek, very fresh and intense flavors are tautly muscular before concluding in a detailed, powerful and mildly austere finale. Lovely. Drink 2027+.

Allen Meadows - Burghound

The 2019 Volnay Santenots 1er Cru has an intense nose of red cherries and wild strawberry, touches of incense emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, supple and lithe, leading to a slightly ferrous finish. Long in the mouth, it is not the most opulent Santenots, but I think that work in its favor. Drink 2023 - 2037.

Fine mid purple. Sheer class on the nose while awaiting the detail. Richer deeper raspberry, worth spending time over this, slightly firmer tannins behind, but the quality of fruit wins the day. No more than medium bodied, yet a Volnay, which will give pleasure over many years.
