The 2019 Blagny La Pièce Sous La Bois 1er Cru is fragrant and comely on the nose, offering pure red cherries mixed with red currant and wild strawberry, all quite sensual and well delineated. The palate is very well balanced with a vivid red cherry and strawberry entry, fine depth and impressive mineralité, This has tension to spare on the spicy finish. An outstanding Blagny that should give up to 18–20 years of drinking pleasure. Drink 2023 - 2040.

Mid purple, a little touch of oak accompanying the fruit on the nose, much more detail of fruit on the palate, very lively and nuanced. Nothing too rich nor ripe. There is plenty of volume here, if anything superior to the Volnay Santenots. Brilliant balance and very persistent. Understated, but just my type of wine.
