2019 Pizzini Pietra Rossa Sangiovese

Semi translucent dark red in colour with black shaded edges and a slightly rustic red hue. Expressive rose petal and red currant scents are trailed by tobacco, dried herb and spicy earth notes. Deliciously savoury the mid weighted palate carries a supple feel with spicy red currant fruits intermeshed with subtle tobacco, dried herb, rhubarb and earthy cedar characters. Very polished tannins with beautifully integrated acidity, complimented by a long refined conclusion.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.

This comes from three of the best sites at Pizzini. It is surprisingly rich but retains the essential character and style of sangiovese. Dried herbs, raspberry and a deep juicy plum influence adding some palate texture. It’s medium bodied with fine chalky tannins and a lick of oak for good measure. Medium weight and good for at least 12 years. Drink 2021-2033.
