After leaving his family domaine in 2005, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has established himself as one of the rising stars of Burgundy. Pierre-Yves has built a strong reputation for crafting exquisite white Burgundy that display energy and vitality. The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts, aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly in 350 litre barrels with no lees stirring and no filtration. The corks used come from one tiny supplier and are extra long and extra wide (55mm x 25mm) for the village, 1er cru and Grand cru wines and are untreated with no paraffin and the bottles are then sealed with soft wax to ensure no problems with premature oxidation. The resulting wines are built to age classically up to 10 years or more.

Other Reviews....
Notes of matchstick character and petrol are present on the aromas of white flowers, poached pear and discreet spice wisps. There is both good volume and vibrancy to the medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a youthfully austere and sneaky long finish. This balanced effort needs to develop more depth, but it appears to have the necessary stuffing to do just that. Drink 2026+.

Allen Meadows - Burghound

Aromas of pear, orange oil and mint, framed by a deft touch of oak, the 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ancegnières is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with an enveloping core of fruit, tangy acids and fine depth at the core. From a parcel located below Bâtard-Montrachet, this is always a very dependable bottling chez Colin, and this year is no exception.

Part comes from younger vines below, part from 85 year old vines above. Picked 8th September at 14.1%. Pale trim to the light yellow colour. A whisper of sulphur shows after the racking. A big step up here with extra layers of ripe fruit, which absolutely fill the mouth, then a gorgeous saline acidity, which complements very well. Not for nothing is Les Ancégnières an emblematic cuvée chez PYCM.
