2019 Penley Estate Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon

Midnight black in colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Sailing from the glass are enticing aromatics of blackcurrant which are trailed by some mulberry, vanillin cedar, subtle tobacco and bay leaf notes. Medium to full bodied the palate is engulfed with rich blackcurrant and ripe mulberry fruits which lend flesh. Cedary tobacco characters, light black olive and spicy bay leaf ensue. Fine grained yet sturdy tannin structure with some underlying earthiness flowing onto the lengthy finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Seriously. Look at the price. A ripper red punching way above its weight, although not a weighty drink at all. It's made to be enjoyed without cellaring, yet it has a lot of panache. A core of excellent fruit, floral and spicy, all gliding along the medium-bodied palate and dabbed with cocoa-powder tannins. Drink by 2027.
