2019 Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards HJ Shiraz
First produced in the year 2000, this is the eighteenth release of Oliver’s HJ Shiraz. Fruit is sourced from the very best parcels of fruit on the Old Block vineyard planted in 1948 by HJ Oliver. Maturation took place in French oak (35% new) for a period of 18 months.
Dense inky black in colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Heady blackberry, liquorice and dark plum scents engulf the nostrils followed by some dark chocolate, vanillin oak, subtle fennel and spicy mocha notes. Rich and plush the full bodied palate is layered with a thick coating of blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and dark chocolate flavours. Opulently textured and possessing a velvety yet sturdily built tannin structure it also has notions of earthy mocha, vanillin oak and spice chiming in. Superb depth, volume and power with a long seductive conclusion.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
