Brilliant pale straw colour with a greenish tinge running around the rim and a watery hue. Nosing reveals a scented profile of white peach and dried honey which meld into biscuity nougat, light cashew and spice notes. Medium bodied with a gently creamed textural feel backed by good underlying freshness, fleshy white peach, subtle dried honey and cashew flavours overlay citrusy nougat and biscuity oak characters. Concludes refined with a deftly balanced aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Other Reviews….
A combination of cooler growing area (Treeton, in the south of Margaret River) and the cool 2019 vintage. Creamy cashew and ripe citrus nose, the palate has a searing line of shaley, minerally acid that courses over the very centre of the tongue. The mid palate onwards plumes into a concentrated and rich cloud of flavour. The fruit spectrum is very much in the yellow peach, white nectarine and pink grapefruit space. Engaging, chalky phenolics through the finish. Textbook brilliance. Drink by 2027.

I note that while the Nocturne website lists all the new wines, the information on them is for the previous vintage. Well, we like to get a little ahead of ourselves here, I guess. This is from a couple of vineyards in Treeton. I suspect 2019 was a good vintage for Chardonnay down Margaret River way. It’s crisp and fresh with a little struck match a la mode, cashews, lime and white peach, and a dusting of spice. Freshness and lime juice tang with a flinty feel, and the smoothing influence of grilled nuts, and a brisk and frisky finish of fine length and precision. It’s nice. Drink 2020-2025+
