As the flagship pinot noir, this lives up to its reputation. It's a whorl of the darkest cherries, covered in baking spices, a fleck of mint and an overlay of savoury inputs, the French oak neatly integrated. It builds on the palate, full bodied but not unwieldy. mouth-filling and generous, with the plushest tannins, ripe and sweet. Very satisfying and approachable now. Drink by 2029.

The 2019 The Moorooduc McIntyre Pinot Noir is clearly built for the longer haul: the tannins are firmer and tighter in the mouth (I like them like this, but that's a style choice), and the fruit has weight and presence. The fruit is warm, as was the vintage, but it doesn't impede the flow or discourse of flavor across the palate. The length through the finish is the final tell-all. The construction is classy—this wine is well built and elegant, with all corners packed with concentrated fruit. Lovely. Pleasure. Drink 2022 - 2032.
