Sourced from a combination of Montalto’s vineyard sites at Red Hill, Main Ridge and Tuerong, the Pennon Hill range of wines are made in a more ready to drink style. For the Pinot Noir 7% of the blend underwent ‘Montalto-style’ whole-bunch fermentation; this technique involves loading whole bunches into a 2T open-fermenter and allowing them to undergo 10 to 14 days of carbonic maceration before being destemmed into 2 tonne open fermenters where primary wild fermentation is completed. At the completion of primary fermentation, the grapes were pressed and the wine transferred to French oak barriques and Puncheons (26% new) for natural malo-lactic fermentation. Average skin contact time was 17 days. Barrel maturation was for 9 months.

Delicious ripe fruits, a supple feel and fantastic power wave all make for one seductive Pinot Noir.

Semi translucent dark red colour with black tinged edges and a light crimson hue. Showing a perfumed like intensity the nose offers up aromatics of violets, ripe cherries and strawberries with some anise, forest floor and spicy cedar also chiming in. Exploding across the palate are delicious ripe dark cherry and strawberry fruits which are both expansive and powerful. Anise, infusions of fresh herbs, forest floor and light spicy cedar also chime in for additional complexity. Fleshy, supple texture with silken tannins complimented by a delightful freshness. Concludes long and highly seductive. A beautifully balanced Mornington Pinot.
