2019 Lone Star Creek Vineyard Chardonnay

Matured for 9 months on lees in new (18%) and used French oak barriques. Brilliant pale straw colour with a greenish tinge to the outskirts and a watery hue. Pronounced white peach, nectarine and dried honey scents sail through the nostrils followed by light biscuity oak, citrusy nougat and subtle gun flint notes. The palate shows good mid weighted flesh with white peach and nectarine fruits to the fore. Delicate notions of dried honey, biscuit and spice sit in the background. Finishes with a burst of freshness on the medium to long aftertaste.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.

Wild-yeast fermented, 9 months on lees in new and used French oak barriques. Has complexity on the bouquet, with grilled nuts, stone fruit, vanilla and some chalky minerality all part of the picture. It gives the impression of being a little lean on the palate, but the texture and acidity propel it along and it sustains well on the finish. Cool-climate elegance on show, you could say. Drink by 2029.

It’s such an elegant, intense, sure-footed wine. Composure, that’s what it has. Lactose, honey, nectarine and lemon curd. The flavours sizzle along like a tennis ball with a fierce undercut of spin applied. Grapefruit on the finish, not bitter but suggestive of it, just enough to whisper the word bite onto your tongue. Quality, it has plenty. Value, well. 24 bucks. Music to a wine lover’s ears. Drink 2020-2027.
