The Jaunutis family purchased the Landhaus property in 2002, which included one of the oldest cottages in the Barossa, built in 1842 by the districts first settlers. They set about rejuvenating the vineyard with the first small vintage of 270 dozen produced in 2004, today production has been ramped up to 15,000 dozen. For winemaker Shane Harris, his ‘hero’ variety is Mourvedre, it’s explosive aromatics, combination of red, blue & black fruits and acid/tannin balance make it a variety ‘that will knock you off your feet’. In this blend he combines it with what is widely regarded as Australia’s hero variety – Shiraz - to produce a rich, hefty wine. Sourced from old, low yielding vines in the Barossa Valley it was matured in 2-4 year old French oak for a period of 10 months.

A blockbuster blend that combines rich black fruits with plenty of textural volume and ripe chewy tannins.

Outstanding depth of colour featuring a heart that’s as dense as an inky black well along with a very deep dark purple black hue. Soaring out of the glass are intense black cherry, liquorice and blackberry aromas with ensuing vanillin cedar, inky earth and spicy blueberry notes. Big, rich and powerful with a thick viscous texture, the palate is a super concentrate of opulent blackberry, liquorice, black cherry and dark plum fruit. Lying underneath are vanillin oak, earth, subtle dried meat and spicy pepper characters. Carrying the lavish black fruits is a ripe, robust tannin structure. Magnificent intensity to the finish with an aftertaste that’s long, rich and faintly chewy in its feel.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
