2019 Jean-Paul et Charly Thevenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes
Slightly hazy dark red colour with a light bright red hue. Rich aromatics of red plum infused with violets are married to wild raspberry and a whiff of sour cherries. Fragrant dried herb, subtle incense, earth and sweet spices then ensue. Driving the palate is a core of delicious red plum and wild raspberry fruits which are complexed by traces of sour cherry, herbs du Provence, earth, infusions of incense and spice. Superb concentration and power with a supple mouthfeel and silky tannins. Finishes with good freshness and a very long aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews…..
Interesting to taste this VV alongside the ‘Tradition’. Different colour (browner), clarity (less), and character. Not better, or worse, just different.
Cloudy, but fine. Sour cherry, strawberry and spice, a little wet clay and slightly lifted edginess, dried flowers and chamomile. Pulpy fruit power, so much presence on the palate, silty and silky in tannin, wild but beautiful, and a finish that runs very long and bright. Unfettered and charismatic. Drink 2021-2025+
