The 2019 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur unwinds in the glass with scents of crisp green orchard fruit, fresh bread, iodine and dried white flowers. Full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with racy acids, chalky structuring dry extract and a long, saline finish. This is another serious, built-to-age bottling from Droin.

There is just enough reduction present to push the green fruit and vaguely exotic aromas to the background so be sure to give this a thorough aeration if you're going to try a bottle young. Otherwise, there is excellent density to the dense if slightly rustic big-bodied flavors that display noticeable warmth on the solidly persistent finish. This is an imposing and powerful Valmur where the balance isn't quite as well dialed in as the best in the range.

Light yellow colour, deep white fruit, this has significant weight of fruit. Spice comes behind, but the fruit weight and the alcohol are well in balance. Plump and satisfying, a glycerol rich Chablis for a powerful meat dish. 13.30% alcohol.
