2019 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Montmains Chablis Premier Cru
Other Reviews....
The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains opens in the glass with notes of green orchard fruit, hazelnuts, clear honey, fresh bread and oyster shell. Medium to full-bodied, layered and muscular, with chalky grip and a saline finish, it has turned out very well.

A smoky nose of mineral reduction, grapefruit and oyster shell introduces dense and almost painfully intense flavors that are supported by citrus-tinged acidity on the powerful and focused finish. Though tightly wound at present, I suspect that this will flesh out relatively quickly.

Pale lemon and lime. The Montmains has a stricter nose, some grilled hazelnut on the palate even a touch of pyrazine or scorched rocks. Lime note at the finish, quite complex. Benoît characterises it as more Burgundian.
