A blend of 84% Shiraz and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Shiraz vines are aged between 30 and 100 years old, and the Cabernet between 30 and 130. Yields are 2.5 tonnes per hectare with the fruit fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters and hand plunged 3 times daily. Matured for 16 months in 100% new oak hogshead barrels (92% French and 8% American). Ben Glaetzer comments that the sheer quality and balanced concentration of the fruit from the 2019 vintage was astounding. The resultant wines showing dark and vibrant colour, terrific aromatic lift and freshness with tight yet approachable young tannins.
Magnificent depth of colour featuring an impenetrable inky black heart and a very deep dark purple black hue. The captivating nose offers up intense blackcurrant, liquorice and blackberry aromatics with a whiff of violets also chiming in. Ensuing are vanillin cedar, subtle black olives and spice. Exceptionally rich and concentrated the palate is saturated with inky blackberry, liquorice and cassis fruits which meld into dark plum, vanillin oak, traces of dark chocolate, fennel and spice. Bright acidity and a sturdily built, tightly grained tannin structure complimenting the opulence of fruit. Power packed it concludes very long with a youthful decadence.
Cellar 10-15 years.
Alc. 15.5%

Other Reviews….
The 2019 Anaperenna Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon is an 84-16 blend, all sourced from the northern end of the Barossa Valley. Bottled in October 2020 and scheduled to be released in October 2021, it features lovely lift and delicate herbal nuances on the nose, plus hints of red and black currants and blackberries. Full-bodied and supple, it's also crisp, long and velvety on the finish, picking up delicious nuances of vanilla, dark chocolate and bright, fresh fruit. Drink 2023-2035.

Joe Czerwinski – Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

84/16% shiraz/cabernet sauvignon from Ebenezer; 30–100yo shiraz; 30–130yo cabernet sauvignon. Matured 16 months in new (92% French and 8% American) oak hogsheads; unfiltered. Ben Glaetzer's superpower is upholding glossy brightness and freshness even in the wake of considerable ripeness, all the more impressive in warm drought seasons in the generous northern Barossa. Anaperenna is a showpiece for the modern great Australian blend, brimming in bountiful red and black fruits, backed generously with dark chocolate and coffee-bean new oak. It holds its proportions and considerable alcohol with astonishing confidence, thanks most of all to a bright flash of pure, fresh acidity. Drink by 2029.
