Produced by Mark Walpole, the viticulturalist for Brown Brothers in the 1990's, who at the time helped them introduce the emerging Italian varietals that were being planted in the North East of Victoria. From vines nearly 40 years old the wine was matured in one third new French oak hogsheads with the balance in a combination of 1- to 4-year-old barrels. Balanced fruit from both the Smith’s and Fighting Gully Road Vineyards in Beechworth, made using indigenous yeasts and 10 months lees ageing. Expect cool climate Chardonnay characteristics, but with a moreish richness on the palate and a hint of struck match.
